National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ)

As the national metrology institute (NMI), we are focusing on the development and dissemination of measurement standards, promotion of measurement standards utilization, development of measurement technologies related to measurement standards, legal metrology work and training of experts. Our activity covers engineering, physical, material, and chemical measurement standards. It also covers development of measurement and analytical instrumentation. We also coordinate international activities on metrology standards as a national representative.

Title Research and Development of Gas Flow Measurement Technology
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience Toward the energy saving and greening in the semiconductor industry and the realization of carbon neutrality, it is an urgent issue to improve the accuracy of actual gas flow measurement for energy-related gases such as hydrogen gas and natural gas, and process gases for semiconductor equipment. Based on this background, we will work on the research of gas flow measurement and development of technique to enable high accurate flow rate measurement for various types of gas based on the small gas flow standard facility as the core. Ambitious researchers with experimental skills and knowledge on mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, and instrumentation/control are invited.

Title Research and Development on Equation of State for New Alternative Refrigerants to Prevent Global Warming
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience Hydrofluorocarbons used in refrigeration and air-conditioning system have a drawback that their global warming potential is large. Development of new alternative refrigerants with low global warming potential is therefore urgently required. In response to this need, we will develop equations of state of new refrigerant candidates, which are necessary for design and performance evaluation of refrigeration and air conditioning system. Title Development of humidified standard gas preparation method and measurement techniques for gas sensor evaluation
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience Researchers with basic knowledge of measurement engineering and analytical chemistry and who are willing to develop new measurement systems are widely invited to apply. There is a growing need for accurate determination of components in gases containing mixtures of multi- components such as indoor environmental air, exhaust gases, and biological gases such as breath and skin gas. We will develop a compact and portable standard gas generator that can prepare standard gases mixing with water and various components, and a highly sensitive measurement method using mass spectrometry and spectroscopy to verify the concentration of the prepared gas. The project also aims to expand the use of biological gases for diagnosis and other applications, and to apply them to various gas-sensor technologies.
