Type C - Specially Appointed Position

Type C is a specially appointed position to undertake externally funded research projects, e.g. NEDO, JST or private companies. The job holders are required to work exclusively on the project sponsored by the funding institution.

2. Selection Process

(1)Document Review, Aptitude test and Interviews at Research Department
 [Expected Schedule]
   After approximately 1 month from document submission
 [Notification of Results]
   As soon as possible after the interview  (note: unsuccessful applicants are not informed after document-based screening.)
 [Interview Method]
   Face-to-face or Online  

(2) Second Screening
 [Expected Schedule] 
  Approximately 1 month after the first interview.
  The Recruitment and Employment Committee will deliberate, so there will be no interviews by applicants.
 [Notification of Results]
   As soon as possible after the Second Screening


 

3. Period of Term

  2 to 5 years - the period of term may be renewed if funds available.
 

4. Position Details

Type of Employment
Fixed-term research staff
Probationary Period 6 months (There is no difference in employment conditions between before and after the probationary period.)
Qualification Required
Ph.D. degree (Ph.D. candidates expected to earn a degree by the start date included) or equivalent skills and experience
Foreign nationals are required to obtain a work permit status acceptable at AIST. 
Start Date To be determined following the selection process.
Work Hours
Standard work hours - 7h 45m per day (Break time is 1 h), 38h 45m per week
(Overtime Work: may be required to work outside the above normal working hours in some cases) 
Working Time System
Flextime system, Discretionary Working Time System, or Standard Working Time System
Location of Work
Tokyo, Ibaraki, Hokkaido, Miyagi, Fukushima, Chiba, Aichi, Fukui,Osaka, Hiroshima, Kagawa, or Saga
Others Smoking-space outside the building as a passive smoking prevention policy
 

5. Salary and Benefits

Base Monthly Salary Base monthly salary for new Ph.D. graduates aged 28 - JPY 297,200.
More to add if you have proven professional experience after Ph.D. The expected annual salary ranges from JPY 5,900k including bonus (before tax).

Allowance
Work responsibility allowance, overtime allowance and commuting allowance are provided in accordance with AIST Salary Policy.
Days-off and Leave
Sundays, Saturdays, public holidays, New Year holidays (from December 29 to January 3)
Annual paid leave, Sick leave, Special leave (summer vacation, marriage, maternity, mourning), Parental leave of absence, Nursing leave of absence
