Type D - Fixed Term Position

Type D is a fixed-term position under annual salary system designed to appoint a highly qualified research scientist to promote research project flexibly and effectively.
Especially, excellent researcher who is expected to become a future leader will be treated as  "Outstanding Research Scientist".
 
 

1. Deadline

2. Selection Process

  For the 2nd Round of AIST Open Recruitment 2021

(1)Document Review, Aptitude test and Interviews at Research Department

   Mid-October to Mid-November 2021
 [Notification of Results]
   Late-November 2021  (note: unsuccessful applicants are not informed after document-based screening.)


(2) The Final Interview Examination (Interview Examination by Recruitment and Employment Committee)

*In principle, all interviews will be held online for a while.

3. Period of Term

  Maximally 5 years. It may be extended only once based on the examination. A tenure examination does not apply to this position.
*For  "Outstanding Research Scientist", the tenure cannnot be extended, but permanent employment may be applied based on his/her research achievement whithin the tenure of Type-D.

4. Position Details

Probationary Period 6 months (There is no difference in employment conditions between before and after the probationary period.)
Qualification Required
Highly qualified research scientist who has substantial expertise to promote research project flexibly and effectively. 
For "Outstanding Research Scientist", a researcher with excellent research skill and expertise to solve societal problems, who is expected to become a future leader.  Please refer to information here.

Ph.D. degree (Ph.D. candidates expected to earn a degree by the start date included) or equivalent skills and experience.
Foreign nationals are required to obtain a work permit status acceptable at AIST. 
Start Date 1 April 2022
Work Hours
Standard work hours - 7h 45m per day ( (Break time is 1 h)), 38h 45m per week
(Overtime Work: may be required to work outside the above normal working hours in some cases) 
Working Time System
Flextime system, Discretionary Working Time System, or Standard Working Time System
Location of Work
Tokyo, Ibaraki, Hokkaido, Miyagi, Fukushima, Chiba, Aichi, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kagawa, or Saga
Others Smoking-space outside the building as a passive smoking prevention policy
 

5. Salary and Benefits

Annual Salary Salaries will be determined based on ability, professional experience and performance. Annual salary is comprised of base annual salary and performance-based pay. Performance-based pay is decided annually based on research staff's performance. The expected annual salary ranges from 6,800k (before tax). (for new Ph.D. graduates aged 28 and has no work experience after graduation)

Allowance
Work responsibility allowance, overtime allowance and commuting allowance are provided in accordance with AIST Salary Policy.
Days-off and Leave
Sundays, Saturdays, public holidays, New Year holidays (from December 29 to January 3)
Annual paid leave, Sick leave, Special leave (summer vacation, marriage, maternity, mourning), Parental leave of absence, Nursing leave of absence
Benefits The mutual aid association of METI provides - Health insurance, Pension scheme, Employment Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, Saving & Loan scheme, Nursery at Tsukuba, Chubu & Kansai, Clinic etc.
Research Funding Approx. JPY 40,000k in total during the tenure of Type-D for "Outstanding Research Scientist".
