Announcement of the 8th RD20 Conference Venue and the Publication of “Leaders Recommendation 2024 Delhi”
The 8th RD20 (Research and Development 20 for Clean Energy Technologies) Conference, organized by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), will be held in South Africa. The RD20 Conference has been held annually since 2019 under Japan’s leadership, and brings together major energy technology research institutions from around the world to share research and development efforts, best practices, and explore possibilities for international collaboration in the field of clean energy.
Additionally, the Leaders Recommendation from the 6th RD20 Conference, held from December 2nd to 6th, 2024, in New Delhi, India, was officially confirmed on May 15th, 2025, and is now published on the RD20 website. The “Leaders Recommendation 2024 Delhi,” identifies several key recommendations, including strengthening collaboration between RD20 and Mission Innovation; RD20 engagement with G20 through technical advice and recommendations to the Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG); amplifying summer school activities to create a new community of young researchers; and promoting researcher exchange.
Themes for Technical Session of the 7th RD20 Conference Confirmed
The themes for the Technical Session (TS) of the 7th RD20 International Conference has been confirmed. The TS will consist of the following plenary session and three themes, and will be held as a hybrid event over two days, from September 30th to October 1st, 2025.

- Plenary Session: High-Level Talk on Energy and Environment
- Theme #1: Synthetic fuels including a wide range of resources, conversion processes and products
- Theme #2: Energy storage with a focus on grid-scale storage for renewables
- Theme #3: AI and digitalization to accelerate research for energy technology innovation, development and deployment

The conference has been officially recognized by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition as a “Theme Weeks Connect”—an official offsite program of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
