It was hosted by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry (METI), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), and the New Energy Foundation of Japan (NEF), as well as the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), with support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). This workshop is a part of a project to foster the demanded researchers to adopt and disseminate renewable energy to ASEAN countries and Japan, where the demand for renewable energy is substantially growing for the mitigation of global warming,  and was held following the successes of the AREWs held at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and at the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) of Indonesia in FY 2014 and 2015, respectively.  The venue was the Hanoi Club Hotel located on the lakefront of West Lake in Hanoi. About 250 people from governments, research agencies, universities, and companies of nine countries of ASEAN, India and Japan attende s this workshop.
