Announcement of the 4th RD20
- International Conference on Clean Energy Technologies for Leaders of National Research Institutes in G20 Countries -

Point

  • The 4th RD20 will be held as part of the Tokyo GX Week hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
  • Directors and representatives of research institutes will discuss the action plan to work toward achieving the Leaders Statement developed at the 3rd RD20 in 2021 (https://rd20.aist.go.jp/en/rd20-3/)
  • RD20 aims to realize a carbon neutral society at an early stage by organizing international collaborative projects such as solar power generation and hydrogen, and human resource development plans

Overview

The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (Tokyo Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo / President: Kazuhiko Ishimura, hereinafter referred to as “AIST”) will hold the international conference “4th RD20” from Tuesday October 4 to Thursday October 6, 2022.

*After registration, you will receive a link to watch the videos at a later date, so you will be able to watch the videos from after the conference to the end of December.
(In some cases, at the speaker’s discretion, the entire program may not be available to watch after the conference.)

*RD20 is part of the Tokyo GX Week, an intensive program that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry holds as international conferences on energy and environmental issues with the aim of achieving a “virtuous circle of economy and environment.”
◆ Leaders Session

The Leaders Session will consist of keynote lectures and a roundtable discussion and be a hybrid of online and in person meetings at the Tokyo Prince Hotel. Directors and representatives of 17 research institutes from 15 countries and region will attend in person and discuss the action plan for achieving the Leaders Statement developed at the 3rd RD20 in 2021. The institutes described below are scheduled to participate in person.
In this session, Akira Yoshino, Director (Fellow) of the AIST Global Zero Emission Research Center, will deliver a keynote lecture and Kazuhiko Ishimura, President and CEO of AIST, will chair the roundtable discussion with the aim of adopting the action plan.

  • Theme 1: Hydrogen Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA)

  • Theme 2: Renewable Energy Generation and Integration
    Moderator: Dr. Christian Thiel, JRC, EU
  • Theme 3: Carbon Management
    Moderator: Dr. David Harris, CSIRO, Australia

Overview of the Conference

*RD20 Key visual: Circles express collaboration and corporation, the various ribbons symbolize diverse thoughts of the researchers and the waves of the ribbons mean combining pile of efforts and seeking appropriate direction achievement of novel and innovative conclusion.

Launched in 2019, the RD20 is a framework for international research and development aiming to strengthen international collaboration and promote innovation by leading research institutes in G20 countries and regions that develop the world’s most advanced technologies for achieving carbon neutrality. RD20 provides opportunities for participants to exchange R&D activities and experiences and best practices related to clean energy technologies across countries and regions, as well as to explore the potential for international joint research. It also serves to deepen and develop new partnerships among relevant industries, academias, and government stakeholders.
