Symposium for the Inauguration of the Global Zero Emission Research Center

A symposium for the inauguration of the Global Zero Emission Research Center (GZR) was held at Hotel New Otani, Tokyo, On Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

In his opening remarks, Dr. CHUBACHI Ryoji, President of AIST, stated that the establishment of GZR is in accordance with plans unveiled by Prime Minister ABE Shinzo of Japan at the Green Innovation Summit last October, for an “international joint research base for zero emission technologies, and that Dr. YOSHINO Akira, one of the 2019 Nobel Laureates in Chemistry, has been appointed as the center’s Director-General.

In their respective keynote speeches, Mr. IIDA Yuji, Director-General of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Dr. Evelyne Etchebehere, Representative in Japan for The French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energy Commission’s technology research unit, and Prof. Dr. Christopher Hebling, Director of Division Hydrogen Technologies at Fraunhofer-Institute for Solar Energy System Germany, each spoke of their expectations for GZR.

 

In the reception following the symposium, Prime Minister Abe and Mr. Kajiyama Hiroshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, who were in attendance as distinguished guests, each gave their greeting remarks, and Dr. Yoshino spoke of his ambitions regarding GZR.
