Yoji Muto, Senior Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and a State Minister of the Cabinet Office, tours the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST (FREA)

On November 27th, 2017 (Monday), Yoji Muto, Senior Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and a State Minister of the Cabinet Office, toured the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST (FREA) in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture along with his entourage.
First, Dr. Yukinobu Miki, Senior Vice-President, made a formal greeting and then Tomomi Yamasaki, Deputy General Manager of the Administrative Division, gave an outline of AIST. They were followed by Masaru Nakaiwa, Deputy Director-General, FREA, who gave an overview of the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST.
After these formalities, the Minister proceeded to tour the research laboratories, and on the first floor of the main building he listened to an explanation by a local company, Kankyo System Yamano Co., Ltd., about prototype products being developed under the Program for Promoting Technologies Invented by Industry in Disaster Areas in Tohoku*. Next, the Minister listened to an explanation by Hirohide Furutani, Director of the Renewable Energy Research Center (RENRC), about various research themes at the Renewable Energy Integrated Demonstration Field, Energy Management Building. Finally, he toured the Smart System Research Facility, which conducts testing and evaluation of large-scale power conditioners.

*Program for Promoting Technologies Invented by Industry in Disaster Areas in Tohoku: Supports the commercialization of renewable energy related technology and know-how of companies located in the three prefectures affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake (Fukushima Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture).
