2. How to apply

Advanced Registration

  1. All applicants are requested to complete advance registration. Any application without advanced registration is not acceptable.
  2. A confirmation email will be sent to you after you complete advanced registration. You can find "Registration Number" in the email, and the number should be written in Form A of your application document.
  3. Up to 5 job opportinities can be chosen for this open recruitment, and please specify Entry IDs of your interests in your advanced registration.
  4. The Entry IDs you choose in your advanced registration should be given exactly in Form A of your application document.

【Application Documents】

  • All the documents should be produced by using the templates prepared below, otherwise, your application is not acceptable. Template package for application documents (A-H) is available here (MS-Word).
  • An application document must be a single PDF file without compress, including reprints of papers (Form E) and recommndation letters (Form I) if available.
  • The size of an application document must be smaller than 20 MB, otherwise, JREC-IN Portal may decline uploading the file.

A Application checklist
  • "Registration Number" is necessary to puroduce application document. Please confirm an email sent from AIST for confirming advanced registration.
  • Entry IDs should be identical ones as described in the confirmation email. 
B CV (Curriculum Vitae)
  • Photo image and email address should be placed in your CV.
  • Information in this format should be identical to ones in the confirmation email.
C List of publications and other achievements
  • Please do not change categorization and file format.
D Summaries of M. S. (if applicable) and Ph. D. degree
  • No more than 1-page each, including figures.
  • For applicants who are scheduled to earn Ph. D. degree, summary of current research activities for Ph. D. degree can be submitted.
E Reprints of publications
  • Up to 3 publications are acceptable for evaluations.
  • Please confirm that the electronic files are not protected by password (the files cannot be handled anymore). Scanning a printed copy of protected reprints is recommended.
F Summaries of publications (E)
  • Please place title of the publication, name of author(s), journal and publication year, volume and pages.
  • No more than 1-page each, including figures.
G Carrier summary
  • Please describe carrier highlights and core competence as a research scientist.
  • No more than 1-page, including figures.
H Future research plan in AIST.
  • Please describe your research plan in AIST, including short-term outcome (within about 5 years), and future direction and carrier planning for about 15 to 20 years.
  • No more than 1-page, including figures.
I Recommendation letter(s)
  • At least 1 letter is necessary for application.
  • Signature by recommender is needed.
  • Date of the letter should be April 1, 2017 or later.

Note On I. Recommendation letter(s)
  • An AIST employee is not eligible to be a recommender.
  • At least 1 recommendation letter should be sent.
  • The letter must be signed by a recommender.
  • Copy of recommendation letter is acceptable at the time of application. However, applicants should submit the letter original immediately Personnel Office of AIST requests.
  • The date should be April 1, 2017 or later. 
  • The President of AIST, Ryoji Chubachi, should be addressee’s name in the letter. The letter should be posted to the address below.

  • An application document can be submitted to log on to JREC-IN Portal.
  • Information in JREC-IN Portal can be found from here.
  • The application document should be produced as a single PDF file by using the template file.
  • File name should be “(Registration Number)-(Name).pdf,” such as “0999-0999-SansouTarou.pdf.”, without space.
  • File size should be less than 20 MB, and downsizing is necessary for uploading.

5. Salary

(1) Base salary

・Type A/B research scientist
Salary will be determined by considering the carrier, experiences, results of evaluations by interviews, and the others. A model annual income for a research scientist of 28 years old at the beginning of employment is 5,300,000 JPY under the discretionary labor system.

・Type C research scientist
Salary will be determined by considering the carrier, experiences, results of evaluations by interviews, and the others. A model annual income for a research scientist of 28 years old at the beginning of employment is 6,400,000 JPY under the discretionary labor system. However, different from other recruitments, high level remuneration will be offered for outstanding previous research achievement, experience, and ability/potential for job opportunities ITH-11, ITH-12, ITH-13 and ITH-14.

・Type D research scientist
Salary will be determined by considering the carrier, experiences, results of evaluations by interviews, and the others.
Annual Salary System is applied to successful candidates based on their previous research achievements, professional experiences, and potential for leading specific research projects.
AIST introduces the salary system to determine “appropriate salary” for successful candidates without being seized by AIST’s traditional “Monthly Salary System.”

(2) Monthly allowances

Work responsibility allowance, Overtime allowance, Commuting allowance, and the others will be paid.

(3) Bonus: June and December

The salaries can be changed because of amendment of our regulations.

 

6. Administration of personal information

  • Submitted documents will not be returned.
  • Submitted documents will be used only for screening purpose.

 

7. For foreign applicants

  • Foreign applicants should acquire eligible status of residence by the first day of employment.
  • Eligible status of residence for working in AIST: (1) Researcher, (2) Permanent Resident, (3) Long-term Resident, (4) Spouse of Japanese National, or (5) Spouse of Permanent Resident.
  • The eligible status of “Professor” is not permitted for working in AIST, and the eligible status of residence should be changed to the suitable status listed above.
