2. How to apply

Applicant eligibility

Type A (Tenure-track Position, Fixed- term of five years)
-　AIST seeks researchers having potential to lead the development of industrial science in a mid- and long-term perspective. Applicants should possess, or be scheduled to earn, a doctoral degree before the day of employment. The presentation date of the degree should be after April 2, 2006. Applicants with equivalent qualification are also welcomed. The employee can move to a tenured position after undergoing a successful review on his/her performance on the job.

Furthermore, the applicants for Type A which are especially approved by employment committee may be employed for Type A (Tenure-track position, fixed-term of less than 5 years, e.g. 3 years) or Type C.

Type B (Fixed-term of two to five years)
-　AIST seeks researchers who participate in various AIST projects supported by the external fund. AIST recruits many talented researchers with specialized knowledge to promote the projects. Applicants should possess, or be scheduled to earn, a doctoral degree before the day of employment. Applicants with equivalent qualification are also welcomed. The tenure evaluation will not be carried out.

Type C (Tenured Position with Age Retirement System for Mid-career Recruitment)
-　AIST recruits mid-career researchers with outstanding experience in various research fields. AIST strongly expects them to be the core of research groups and to make a significant social contribution through the research projects. Applicants should possess a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification.

Pre-registration

Pre-registration (on website) must be required.
When you are applying for multiple positions, additional pre-registration are required.

ex.) For two (three) positions; two (three) times pre-registration are needed.

B. CV (Curriculum vitae) with a photo and email address. / CV format [MS-Word] CV format [PDF]

C. List of publications and other achievements.

D. Summaries of your master’s degree (if applicable) and doctoral theses with the title and your name. Each summary should be written in one page long of A4 size including figures.

E. Reprints of up to 3 of major papers.

F. Summaries of the reprints "E", each of which should be written in one page long of A4 size including figures.

G. Summary of your previous research.
Free style, A4 size, 1 page long including figures.

H. Research plan in AIST.
　Free style, A4 size, 1 page long including figures. Describe specifically how you plan to contribute to the sustainable development of society and the industry as a researcher of AIST.

I. One or more original signed recommendation letter(s).
　Recommendation letters should be addressed to AIST President, Tamotsu NOMAKUCHI. The recommendation letters written by AIST employee are not accepted. The copies of recommendation letter (including scaned file) are not accepted. When the recommendation letter is sealed up or sent to our office directly, duplicate of recommendation letter(s) is not needed.

Number of copies

Submit the original set of items "A" to "I" and a duplicate set of them.
When you are applying for multiple positions, additional duplicates are required.

ex.) For two (three) positions; One original set of items "A" to "I" and also two (three) duplicate sets of them.

Each document should be fastened with a paper clip (Do not use any paste and stapler).

3. Due date

All the application documents must reach our office no later than following date.
April 12, 2013 (Applicants for multiple positions)
April 26, 2013 (Applicants for one position)

4. Selection process

1) Screening in each research unit

2) Screening in each research field

5. Salary

(1) Monthly salary

・Type A resercher
Basic sum for the Ph. D. fellow is 265,200 JPY, which will be raised considering the employee’s career
and research activity.
・Type B resercher
Basic sum for the Ph. D. fellow is 294,500 JPY, which will be raised considering the employee’s career
and research activity

・Type C researcher: Salary commensurate with experience ,ability, and etc..

(2) Monthly allowances

Work responsibility allowance, Overtime allowance, Commutation allowance, etc.

(3) Bonus: June and December

(4) (Reference) A model of annual income for Ph.D. fellow under the discretionary labor system (in case of 28 years old at the beginning of employment).

・Type A researcher: 5,000,000 JPY.
・Type B researcher: 5,900,000 JPY.

The salaries can be changed caused by changing our regulations.

6. Administration of personal information

・Submitted documents will not be returned.
・Submitted documents will be used only for screening purpose.

7. For foreign applicants

Foreign applicants must acquire eligible status of residence by the first day of the employment.
Eligible status of residence for working at AIST: (1)Researcher, (2)Permanent Resident, (3)Long-term Resident, (4)Spouse of Japanese National or (5)Spouse of Permanent Resident.

The eligible status “Professor” is not permitted in AIST. It is necessary for you to change your present visa status to mentioned above.
