National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ)

As the national metrology institute (NMI), we are focusing on the development and dissemination of measurement standards, promotion of measurement standards utilization, development of measurement technologies related to measurement standards, legal metrology work and training of experts. Our activity covers engineering, physical, material, and chemical measurement standards. It also covers development of measurement and analytical instrumentation. We also coordinate international activities on metrology standards as a national representative.

Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience The Research Division of Engineering Measurement Standards of the National Center of Metrology invites applications from researchers who are engaged in research and development of precision measurement techniques for physical quantities such as length and geometric shape measurements, mechanical measurements, fluid measurements, and physical properties measurements, as well as advanced application techniques based on these measurement techniques, and development of national measurement standards. Researchers with knowledge and experimental experience in physics, applied physics, precision engineering, mechanical engineering, fluid engineering, control engineering, information engineering, process engineering, etc. are eligible.
We also welcome applications from those who do not hold a doctoral degree but are willing to apply their practical experience in industry to the social implementation of research results and the maintenance, management, and supply of national measurement standards.

Title Development of pH measurement techniques using electrochemistry
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience Accurate pH measurement is essential in chemical, clinical and environmental analysis. To achieve universal pH measurement, it is necessary to develop measurement techniques based on the definition of pH. Particularly in recent years, it has become increasingly important to understand the oceanic carbon system in order to predict the future of global warming.For this reason, measurement techniques need to be developed to measure the pH of highly saline solutions such as seawater. Title Development of multicomponent standard gas preparation method and measurement techniques
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience The performance of gas sensors and humidity sensors is important in a variety of situations such as indoor environment, manufacturing process control, and biological gas measurement. In this project, we will work on the development of a compact, portable standard gas generator that can prepare water and a variety of other components, as well as an advanced low dew point standard gas generator.
We will work on developing high-speed, high-sensitivity, and high-precision measurement methods using spectroscopy, etc. In addition, we aim to develop applications such as medical diagnosis using biogas and semiconductor manufacturing process monitoring. We are looking for researchers who have basic knowledge of measurement engineering and analytical chemistry and are willing to work on developing new measurement systems.

Title Development and application of measurement and calibration technology for semiconductor nanomaterials
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience There is a growing need for fundamental technology to accurately measure the critical dimension of three-dimensional nanoscale structures that constitute next-generation nanodevices. We will develop practical measurement technologies that contribute to high-precision nondestructive analysis using light sources such as synchrotron radiation X-rays, and conduct basic applied research.
We are seeking researchers with basic knowledge of measurement engineering, experimental physics, mathematical statistics, and physical chemistry; probing techniques using electron beams or electromagnetic waves such as radiation, X-ray, light, and mechanical probes; and practical experience and expertise in data processing such as simulation calculation and numerical analysis.
