Geological information is essential for a country like Japan, located at a tectonically active area, to ensure a safe and secure society. The Geological Survey of Japan gathers, compiles, and provides geological information and promotes its wider use. We also develop technologies to overcome various difficulties related to global environment protection, exploration of minerals and energy resources, and natural disaster mitigation, and coordinate international cooperation as a national representative.

Title Research on Marine Geohazards Records using Bottom Sediments
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) engages in research using bottom sediment samples and geophysical survey data acquired by marine research vessels. In particular, AIST aims to decipher records of earthquakes from bottom samples in order to provide advanced geological information that contributes to disaster risk assessment and research in geological evolutions.

Title Research on Geophysical Techniques for Natural Resource Development, Utilization of Underground Space, and Disaster Prevention
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience We research surveys, evaluation and monitoring of geological and hydraulic characteristics, targeting mineral resources and methane hydrate surveys, underground environment utilization such as geological disposal of radioactive waste and underground storage of CO2, and disaster prevention of important infrastructure facilities.

Title Research and development on Evaluation of Active Faults based on Geological Survey
Job Summary and Essential/Desirable Skills and Experience We are looking for motivated researchers to conduct field studies focused on understanding earthquake potential and hazards related to active faults on land and along coastlines. This includes investigating tectonic geomorphology, earthquake geology, and geophysics.
Applicants should have a strong foundation in geomorphology, geology, and geophysics, as well as extensive experience with field surveys, geological investigations, and/or geophysical observations.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are eager to contribute to the development of new research techniques and evaluation methods to advance our understanding of active faults. Additionally, applicants should be willing to enhance and analyze the AIST Active Fault Database to disseminate valuable information about active faults.
