Achieve world level production efficiency Ammonia Synthesis Catalyst (1926)

After World War I, the Provisional Laboratory of Nitrogen was established to develop ammonia and nitric acid synthesis technology. The developed ammonia synthesis catalyst increased ammonia production from 0.5 t/month to 5 t/day. That achievement created much sensation in the chemical industry because the catalyst caught up with the level of European technology in 8 years after setting up the laboratory. The development continued at the Government Chemical Industrial Research Institute, Tokyo. The developed method was recognized as Japan's first ammonia synthesis technology, "TIEL method of ammonia synthesis," and was commercialized by Showa Fertilizers K.K. (currently, Showa Denko K.K.) in 1931.
