Since the nuclear disaster in the spring of 2011, people in regions where there is concern about the impacts of radioactive substances need to know the amount of radiation exposure they are receiving in daily life. A dosimeter is used to measure radiation exposure, but for this region it should be portable, simple, be able to measure long-term radiation exposure, and clearly show changes in exposure. To meet such requirements, in 2012 AIST developed an ultra-compact dosimeter with low power consumption.
