Type C - Specially Appointed Position

Type C is a specially appointed position to undertake externally funded research projects, e.g. NEDO, JST or private companies. The job holders are required to work exclusively on the project sponsored by the funding institution.  
 

1. Selection Process

  Document Review and Interviews at Research Department
  • The screening process is scheduled for mid-May to mid-June.
  • The notification of the result - late June (note: unsuccessful applicants are not informed after document-based screening.)
  Interview Examinations by Recruitment and Employment Committee
  • In person interviews are scheduled for early July to mid-July.
  • Interviews will be held in Tsukuba Center.
  Final Result
  • Job offer decisions will be made by early August.

 

2. Period of Term

  2 to 5 years - the period of term may be renewed if funds available.

Qualification Required
Ph.D. degree (Ph.D. candidates expected to earn a degree by the start date included) or equivalent skills and experience
Foreign nationals are required to obtain a work permit status acceptable at AIST. 
Start Date Any date between 1 Oct 2019 and 1 April 2020 - to be determined following the selection process.
Work Hours
Standard work hours - 7h 45m per day, 38h 45h per week
Working Time System
Flextime system, Discretionary Working Time System, or Standard Working Time System
Location of Work
Tokyo, Ibaraki, Hokkaido, Miyagi, Fukushima, Aichi, Osaka, Hyogo, Hiroshima, Kagawa, Fukuoka, or Saga

4Salary and Benefits

Base Monthly Salary Base monthly salary for new Ph.D. graduates aged 28 - JPY 301,200.
More to add if you have proven professional experience after Ph.D. The expected annual salary ranges from JPY 6,000k including bonus (before tax).

Allowance
Work responsibility allowance, overtime allowance and commuting allowance are provided in accordance with AIST Salary Policy.
Days-off and Leave
Sundays, Saturdays, public holidays, New Year holidays (from December 29 to January 3)
