Main
Activities
TNIRI conducts research on fundamental technologies of our society such as environmental protection technology and technology for development of resources and energy, and on technologies for promotion of our industry such as technology for development of new materials, advanced processing technology of metals, and evaluation technology of metallic materials.
Joint
Research
TNIRI conducts joint research with national institutes, universities, and private enterprises under the Large-Scale Regional Projects and the Joint Public-Private Sector Research Rules of AIST.
Technical
Assistance
TNIRI gives technical training to researchers and engineers from both public and private organizations, disseminates latest technologies through various study forums, training, and technical guidance, and gives technological advice to administrative organizations.
Cooperation
with
Universities
In addition to joint research with universitites, TNIRI sends concurrent professors and part-time instructors to Tohoku University and other educational organizations, and gives guidance to students who prepare for their theses as well as students from abroad. TNIRI also accepts graduate students.

Symposium
and
Publications
TNIRI holds lectures and symposia, and publishes Report of TNIRI, News of TNIRI, and other publications. TNIRI is also promoting the exchange of technological information within the institute and with outside organizations through information networks.

Acceptance
of
Doctors
TNIRI accepts STA fellows, AIST fellows, and many researchers with docrate based on the bilateral cooperation agreement in order for them to do research under the guidance of our researchers.

International
Joint
Research
TNIRI contributes to the development of friendly relationship with research organizations in advanced and developing countries through joint research, dissemination of research outcomes, technology transfer, and exchange of researchers.

JICA
Training
TNIRI accepts overseas trainees from developing countries through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
