Activities
CNIRI is promoting various research projects of physical, chemical and biological processes in the sea, with concentration on ocean development and environmental assessment with the aid of the world's largest hydraulic model, and projects of industrial basic technologies such as machining, material evaluation, processing of new materials, and information technology.

Consultation
CNIRI welcomes technical enquiries from private enterprises by telephone, letter, or interview.
Technical
Guidance
CNIRI accepts requests for technical training on matters related to its research outcomes or experiences.
Laboratory
Visits
CNIRI welcomes visitors to the institute on Thursdays on condition that our research activities are not inconvenienced. Those who wish to visit the institute are requested to apply in writing in advance.
Joint
Research
CNIRI conducts joint research with private enterprises in order to solve problems which lie in the boundary area between applied research and practical research for commercialization. Costs and efforts are shared by the parties concerned.
Contract
Research
CNIRI conducts commissioned research provided that any useful outcomes can be produced simply by expanding the existing research results or utilizing the current facilities as they are or without much modification.
Testing
Services
CNIRI accepts requests for chemical analysis and property testing related to its research activities. Fees for these services are fixed by the Japanese Government.
Patent
Licensing
The property of inventions and contrivances produced through research activities belongs to the Japanese Government. Those who wish to implement inventions are requested to submit an application to the Japan Industrial Technology Association (JITA).
