Applied research is an “original investigation undertaken in order to acquire new knowledge. It is, however, directed primarily towards a specific practical aim or objective”. Experimental development is the “systematic work, drawing on existing knowledge gained from research and/or practical experience, that is directed to producing new materials, products or devices; to installing new processes, systems and services; or to improving substantially those already produced or installed”[15].ROAMEF: Acronym for R (rationale), O (objective), A (appraisal), M (monitoring), E (evaluation), and F (feedback, or review of the cycle)[16].PDCA cycle: A kind of management cycle proposed in the 1950s by Walter A. Shewhart and W. Edwards Deming (U.S.A). It is an acronym for P (plan), D (do), C (check), and A (act). When one cycle is completed, the final “act” is linked to the “plan” of the next cycle so the project will improve spirally. The PDCA cycle can be implemented for a small group or for the entire organization. Ideally, the individual PDCA cycles should link to the higher PDCA cycle[24][28].Y.
