This is because there are increasing cases of safety and social sustainability issues having a trade-off relationship and we are not in a situation to address only individual safety issues. We are conducting research on safety evaluations to meet the demand for a safer society and present scientifically accurate guidelines for solving multiple trade-off issues based on the results of these evaluations. We are also disseminating the results of these evaluations to help the public, communities, industries, governments, and international organizations make rational decisions and develop realistic standards, thereby contributing to the strengthening of Japan’s industrial competitiveness.Through developing methods and tools for chemical risk assessment , life cycle assessment and the evaluation of physical hazards, we aim to lead trans-disciplinary research to quantify the multifold trade-off issues and give the best solution for launching new technologies into society.【 Outline 】【 Director 】 Hiroki Yotsumoto【 Deputy Director 】Kazumasa Honda2015105020102012201420162018202020222024202620282030[]Research Center for HydrogenIndustrial Use and StorageToward a hydrogen societyURL : http://unit.aist.go.jp/hydrogenius/cie/E-mail : hydrogenius_web-ml@aist.go.jp744 Motooka, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka, Fukuoka 819-0395, Japan Tel: (092) 802-0260 / Fax: (092) 802-0259 (from outside Japan: Tel: +81-92-802-0260 / Fax: +81-92-802-0259)【 Research Bases】AIST Kyushu Fukuoka West Branch, AIST Tsukuba (West)Hydrogen is expected to be the next-generation clean energy source with lower pollution and CO2 emissions and to make a significant contribution to Japan’s energy security. Before hydrogen becomes widely used, however, there are many research problems to be solved such as characterizing its properties in a high-pressured or liquefied state, and clarifying the mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement that causes materials to degrade. Our goal is to scientifically investigate phenomena concerning hydrogen and various materials and build database for industry, and to develop technical guidelines for safe, reliable and economic use of hydrogen.Experiment building of the Research Center for Hydrogen Industrial Use and Storage【 Outline 】【 Director 】 Yukitaka Murakami【 Deputy Director 】Junichi Mitsuyama【 Deputy Director 】Saburo Matsuoka【 Deputy Director 】Nobuhiro Kuriyama14Organization and OutlineEnvironment and Energy
