In FY2011, when drain pipes at AIST Tsukuba damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake were repaired, a large amount of sludge in the pipes was released, and twice as much sludge was disposed as the previous fiscal year. We promoted the reduction of the use of chemical substances from the perspective of safety management. Particularly, the reuse of research equipment helps reduce expenditures, and therefore is the focus of our waste reduction efforts (see Effective Use of Resources).As a responsibility of a waste generator, we voluntarily inspect waste disposal sites every year.
