A Firework Shell with a Diameter of 1cm
Technology for safe controll explosions
The research for safety supports traditional craftsmanship
structure of firework shell There is a danger of explosion in many aspects of our life.
AIST has been conducting research to contribute to a safe life through the development of technology for controlling such a hazardous phenomenon.
A polymer explosive developed by AIST is far more shock resistant than conventional explosives.
It has a potential for greatly improving safety in production, storage and transportation.
Moreover, the high level of explosion control newly developed made it possible to manufacture the fireworks that had been considered to be impossible to make.

structure of firework shell One example is the world's smallest fireworks shell with a diameter of less than 1 cm.
Firework shells are generally made by stuffing a capsuleshaped container with a number of small firework stars.
The world's smallest shell is also made by stuffing polymer explosive stars.
The firework shell explodes 2 m above the ground.
Research at AIST will be continued also to support traditional technology developed by craftspeople.
