Access Guide

TRAIN

USING TSUKUBA EXPRESS (TX)

Take a train (rapid service, 45 min. or semi-rapid service, 52min.) from Akihabara Station and get off at Tsukuba Station (next to the Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal). Take exit A3 for public transportation or take exit A3 for AIST shuttle bus.

*From Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal, you can take public bus, taxi, or AIST shuttle bus.

1.	Public bus
	Take the Kanto Tetsudo bus going to “Hitachino Ushiku Station” from platform #4 at Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal. Get off at “Kisho Kenkyusho”. Walk 1 minute to AIST Tsukuba West.

Taxi

Take a taxi at Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal. It takes approximately 15 minutes and it costs about 1,500 yen.

3.	AIST shuttle bus (operated on weekdays)
	Take a free AIST shuttle bus from a platform for private buses. Please note that not all buses stop at AIST Tsukuba West (see the timetable), and that the shuttle buses are small vehicles and they may not be able to carry all visitors. > “Timetable of AIST Shuttle Bus”

USING JR JOBAN LINE

Take the train from Ueno (approximately 60 min.) and get off at Hitachino Ushiku Station. Take the East exit.

1.	Public bus
	Take the Kanto Tetsudo bus going to “Tsukuba Center” from platform #1 at Hitachino Ushiku Station. Get off at “Kisho Kenkyusho”. Walk for approximately 1 minute to AIST Tsukuba West.
2.	Taxi
	Take a taxi from Hitachino Ushiku Station to AIST Tsukuba West. It takes approximately 15 minutes.

BUS

USING HIGHWAY BUSES

Take a highway bus (co-operated by JR and Kanto Tetsudo) going to “Tsukuba Center” or “Tsukuba Daigaku (University)” from JR Highway Bus Terminal at Tokyo Station. It will take approximately 65 minutes (depending on traffic conditions) and it costs 1,150 yen for a one-way ticket. Get off at “Tsukuba Center”. Then you can take public bus, taxi, or AIST shuttle bus at Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal.

USING AIRPORT BUSES

Haneda Airport – Tsukuba Center (bus terminal) : Costs 1,800 yen one way, takes approximately 120 minutes
Narita Airport – Tsukuba Center (bus terminal) : Costs 2,540 yen one way, takes approximately 120 minutes
Ibaraki Airport – Tsukuba Center (bus terminal) : Costs 1,000 yen one way, takes approximately 60 minutes

CAR

USING JOBAN EXPRESSWAY

Get off the Joban Expressway at “Sakura Tsuchiura” or “Yatabe” exit. Take the Route 354, and turn at the “Inarimae” intersection towards Mt.Tsukuba. Go straight for 1 kilometer, then turn left. A blinking, red-and-white colored steel tower (at Meteorological Research Institute) will be a landmark.
