Amazing progress on modern biomimetics and bio-inspired materials is tightly associated with better understanding of a rich variety of biological systems and biological diversity.
In 2009, we started this International Symposium on Engineering Neo-Biomimetics for good discussion among researchers on the increasing potential and industrial applications of biomimetics such as: (1) Molecular Biomimetics, Directed Self-assembly and Self-organization systems, Nano-Biomedicals; (2) Biomineralization and Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Materials; (3) Biomechanics and Mechanomaterials; (4) Biofluidics and Biotribology; (5) Superhydrophobic / Superhydrophilic Surfaces and Wettability; (6) Biological and Biomimetic Sensing; (7) Biomimetic Photonics and Optics; (8) Bioenergetics and Nature Technology. This symposium has also left not a small after-effect to promote worldwide human networks among biologists, materials scientists, and industrial researchers.
As a continuation of this Symposium, the second round will be held in Tsukuba Science City near Tokyo. In addition to the topics listed above, we will focus our interests on the recent progress of softmaterials and its potential for future soft robotics. The importance of database will be highlighted as well as an engine of interdisciplinary research.
