The Technical Advisory Office was set up in planning Section.

Marine Resources Laboratory and Marine Technology Development Laboratory were set up.

Divisions were reorganized into Material Science and System Engineering Departments,while Technical Advisory Office was renamed as the Technology Exchange Promotion Center.
・October 1993
GIRIS was renamed as Shikoku National Industrial Research Institute (SNIRI) and two existing Departments were reorganized into Marine Resources Development Dept, and Processing Fundamentals Dept.
・July 1994
The facility moved to Kagawa Intelligent Park
