The Collection of Safety Instruments in Underground Coal Mine

At present, the underground coal mines in Japan are two mines which is 1 mine in Hokkaido and 1 mine in Kyusyu island. However it is important subject to research the technology for coal mine safety. Coal Mine Safety Research Center in Hokkaido has collected various instruments and appliances for the coal mine safety during the past fifty years since its establishment. The collection, which includes methane detectors, methane alarms, oxigen breathing apparatuses and others used from 1902s through 1980s, is displayed in an old building. About one hundred and fifty articles show the historical advancement of the technology for coal mine safety.
