5. Micro Manipulation System
Micro-manipulation technology has many potential applications, including microscopic surgery, cell manipulation and the assembly of complete micro-machines from miniature components. We have developed a two-fingered micro hand based on parallel mechanisms with six degrees of freedom, arranged sequentially.
In order to assemble micro-machines from miniature parts, it is necessary to apply drops of adhesive smaller than the components themselves. The ultra-low volume of the adhesive is obtained by taking advantage of the capillary phenomenon in a glass pipette.
The micro drop is then created by pressurizing the adhesive agent. This is a simple technique because pressure control is unnecessary. Using this system, a micro scarecrow just 25 micron-meters in height was successfully assembled.
