8. Smart Way Sensing and Earthquake Disaster Mitigation
　　Recent progress in the field of smart way sensing and monitoring technology and the advanced technique of acquired data analysis has created the need for the establishment of a real active Disaster Prevention System that can function automatically by receiving earthquake forecast information.
　　As basic research towards the establishment of the system, the following research topics are now in progress: a) development of a technique to sense various earthquake precursors such as electromagnetic and underground sonic anomalies. b)development of an experimental technique for impact wave interaction to evaluate the deformation and fracture of elements at high strain rate.
