1964
Government Industrial Research Institute, Kyushu (GIRIK) was established,
and Planning and General Affairs Sections were set up.
1965
Department of Chemistry and Department of Machine & Metal were set up.
1966
Department of Mineral Resources was set up.
1967
Affairs Section was reorganized into General Affairs Division.
1972
Technology Advoce Office opened.
1978
Department of Materials Science was set up.
1984
Research Planning Director System was introduced instead of Planning Section.
1986
Technology Advice Office was reorganized into Technology Information Office
1989
Chief Senior Researcher System was introduced. Ohita Branch opened.
1990
Visiting Researchers System was introduced
1993
GIRIK was renamed into Kyushu National Industrial Research Institute (KNIRI) and the four existing Departments were reorganized into Department of Materials Chemistry, Inorganic Materials, Inorganic Composite Materials and Materials Engineering.
