5) Global Environment and Prevention of Environmental Pollution
Making of oil from waste plastics. De-chlorine treatment of PVC plastics
Conversion technologies of waste plastics have been carried out. The objectives are to make transportation fuels, chemical feed stocks and boiler fuels. A precise scanning calorimeter has been developed for the thermal analysis of plastics, and based on the thermal analysis by using the apparatus, the two-stage catalytic decomposition method and the de-chlorine method have been developed.
These developments lead waste plastics to the possible recycle use. The two stage decomposition method can make rather light oil which is in between gasoline and kerosene fraction. The de-chlorine method can make a pollution free boiler fuels.
These technologies developed are in the stage of practical use, for a public and private sector.
Study on High Quality Adsorbents for Environmental Protection
In order to utilize the abundant resources of lignite and peat materials in Thailand, we develop the technology of producing with quality adsorbents from such raw materials for the application to air and water pollution control in the country.
Research on the Preparation of High Quality Adsorbent for SOx from Coal Ash
The research purpose is to develop an effective adsorbent of SOx from coal ash for the control of air pollution caused by coal-fired thermal electric power plants in the Philippines.
Removal of Artificial Toxicants in Dilute Aqueous Solution by Chemical Reduction
This study aims to make ground water and waste water, etc. polluted by harmful organic compound such as chlorinated organic compound, harmless by reduction processing. For this purpose we use catalytic metal iron as reducing agent, to degrade the toxicants into harmless substances, producing a more acceptable water by environmental standard.
Treatment of Materials Containing Minute Amount of Halogenated Organic Compounds
This study aims to establish a practical method which converts the materials containing a small amount of halogenated organic compound to safe and harmless substances. The process consists of separation of halogenated organic compounds by microwave irradiation, and the reductive dehalogenation under reducing atmosphere.
Dehalogenation process of halogenated organic compounds
Utilization Technology of Waste Materials
Utilization processes of waste vegetable oil and fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) are examined. Waste vegetable oil has a high capability as a fuel of fluidized bed boiler if we develop a suitable injection system for the oil. Thermal separation process of glass fibers from waste FRP is investigated because the fiber is reusable and a valuable material.
A New Coal Combustion System
A new research project on fluidized bed coal combustion by oxygen with flue gas recirculated has started from 1995. The major subjects in the research project are optimum design of the combustion system and control technology of gaseous pollutants such as nitrogen and sulfur oxides.
