GMT information
GMT (Generic Mapping Tools)
GMT (Generic Mapping Tools) is a powerful data mapping tool package on UNIX system. It is developped by Wessel and Smith (EOS, v.72, p.441-446, 1991) and freeware! Current version is 3.0 (1995/08).
You can get a brief introduction of GMT 3.0 by authors on AGU, EOS electric supplement.New Version of the Generic Mapping Tools Releasedon Aug 15, 1995.
Japanese version of this page is here.
GMT has various strong points,
- High quality ("camera-ready") PostScript output.
- Fit to process geophysical data.
- Support various geographical map projections.
- Support 3D plot with mesh, surface plot.
- Powerful gridding functions.
- Grid, image data manupilation.
- Support 24bit color.
- Contains resolution selectable coastline data.
- Portable among various UNIX systems.
- NetCDF binary data support.
To demonstrate the power of GMT, check the example figures of Tutorial and Cookbook of GMT v.3.

Bathymetric data around Japan
Bathymetric data around Japan and some sample images are available at guide of bathymetric data.
The grid file was compiled by M. Komazawa, K. Kisimoto (GSJ) and A. Nishizawa (JHD).
World gravity anomaly data by Sandwell and Smith
World gravity anomaly data with a sample image are available at guide of world gravity data.
World plate boundaries, magnetic lineations, fracture zones
World plate boundaries, magnetic lineations, and fracture zones can be plotted with GMT and the data files which were compiled by NOAA. Read plates page.
