ANTOSTRAT information
Antarctic margin seismic stratigraphy and paleoenvironment
TRC/JNOC(Technology Research Center/Japan National Oil Corporation) has carried out a series of basic geological and geophysical surveys around Antarctica since 1980 in corporation with Geological Survey of Japan by order of NREA/MITI(Natural Resources and Energy Agency/Ministry of International Trade and Industry).
This is a survey tracks of Multichannel Seismic profiling in this project, 1980-1994.
Gas Hydrate BSR?
The following image shows Bottom Simulating Reflector (BSR) on the seismic reflection profile taken by USGS. This kind of BSR is believed as the base of gashydrate layer which shows more consolidated physical property than the deeper normal sediment.

Wilkes Land Paleo Glacial Activity
Wilkes Land Margin, East Antarctica, is a typical Atlantic type continental margin. It records the paleoenvironmental information in its stratigraphy and geological structure since late Cretaceous. The margin was intensively surveyed by USGS (U.S. Geological Survey), IFP (Institut Francais de Petrol) and JNOC (Japan National Oil Coorporation) with multichannel seismic reflection (MCS) method.
MCS records give the geological structure and stratigraphic information with which we can estimate the extent of Antarctic glacial activity in this margin.
