Active Structure Map (1:500,000) 'Tokyo' (2nd edition)

The Active Fault Research Section published a 1:500,000 active structural map 'Tokyo' (2nd edition) in 1998. It consists of three maps (each about 80 cm wide, 55 cm high in 10 colors) and an explanatory text (33 pages including reference lists). The price for a set is \3,255 (including \155 consumption tax).
Please contact the distributors to purchase.

Each of the maps covers an area ranging from 138ßE to 141ßE and from 34ß30ŒN to 36ß30ŒN, which includes the whole of Tokyo (excluding islands), Kanagawa, Chiba, and Saitama Prefectures, as well as part of Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Nagano, and Shizuoka Prefectures.

The Active Structure Map, codes active faults, earthquake faults (activate in histrical earthquakes), and old geological faults by different colors. Formations and volcanoes of Quaternary age are also displayed. Earlier geological formations are also shown.

The Seismotectonic Map shows the epicenters of earthquakes exceeding M 6. Magnitude is shown by different sizes of circles. Dates of earthquakes are appended to each of the epicenter circles. The map also shows contours on the top of the upper surface of the Pacific and Philippine Sea Plates.

The Gravity Structure Map shows gravity anomalies reflecting the underground density structure (Bouguer anomaly). colors show differences in depth to the basement rocks beneath the Kanto Plain (exceeding 3,000 m deep in part of Saitama Prefecture).

Active faults are also shown in the seismotectonic map and the gravity structure map. The explanatory text briefly describes the characteristic features of active faults, earthquakes, and gravity structures. It is written in Japanese but contains an English abstract.
