地質標本館では地球と人との関わり合いを理解していただくために，地質調査所の研究成果を地球科学の主テーマごとにまとめて展示しています．私たちは，これまでエネルギー・鉱物資源を始めとして，地球から極めて多くの恵みを得てきました．これによって，巨大な文明社会を築き上げる一方，今日では地域的な環境のみならず，地球規模の環境破壊を引き起こしつつあります．当地質標本館の展示を通じて，あるべき地球の姿を理解し，同時に“地球に優しい社会とは”について考えて頂ければ幸いです．

Welcome to the Geological Museum Web

　What is the Earth ? What is its origin ? What is its evolution ? And what does it mean to man ? These are fundamental questions which we geologists ask ourselves constantly. The activities of the Geological Survey are attempts to approach geoscientific problems with view to obtaining clues to these basic questions.
　During the course of the work, many new facts were discovered , new ideas presented , and large amount of samples collected. The Museum is designed to introduce the results of the activities of the Survey through display of samples, models, panels etc., and to disseminate the fruits of geosciences to the public so that a glimpse of the interaction between man and earth could be caught.
