Message from the Director General

Chugoku National Industrial Research Institute(CNIRI), under the supervision of the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology(AIST), MITI, was established in 1971 to contribute the improvement of the Seto Inland Sea environment and the advancement of industrial technology in Chugoku district.

Since then, we are promoting various research projects of physical, chemical and biological processes in the sea, concentrating on ocean development and environmental assessment with the aid of the world's largest hydraulic model, and projects of industrial basic technologies such as machining, material evaluation, processing of new materials, and information technology.

Because industrial science and technology is one of the social foundations to assure the long-term economical revolution, we should challenge to creative researches. Under these circumstances, we have two main research fields:remediation and enhancement of marine environment, and evaluation for materials, and promotes positively basic and original research.

In addition, we contribute to the progress of Chugoku district through the development of industrial technologies under the close relationship with regional administrations, other research institutes and universities.
