History



July 1971 The Goverment Industrial Research Institute, Chugoku was established in Hiro, Kure, Hiroshima as the l6th research institute of the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Hydraulic Model Division, Planning Division and General Affairs Division were formed.
July 1972 Hydraulic Model Div. was divided into Hydraulics Div.I and Hydraulics Div.II.
May 1973 The hydraulic model of the Seto Inland Sea was built.
July 1973 Production Engineering Div. was formed.
May 1976 Hydraulics Div.I, II and III were renamed Coastal Oceanography & Hydraulics Div., Instrument & Control Div. and Environmetal Chemistry Div., respectively. Corrosion Engineering Div. was formed.
Oct 1977 Research Dept. was divided into two departments, Marine Environment Dept. affiliated with three Divs. and Machinery & Metals Dept. affiliated with two Divs.
April 1978 Technical Information Office was formed in Research Planning Div.
JuIy 1985 System Engineering Div. was formed in Machinery & Metals Dept.
July 1986 The departments and the divisions were renamed, that is, Marine Science & Technology Dept. affiliated with Marine Technology Div. Marine Resources Div. and Marine Environment Div. and Industrial System Dept. affiliated with Production Engineering Div., Material Engineering Div., and System Engineering Div. Technical Information Office was also renamed Technical Consulting Section.
May 1987 Marine Biological Science Div. was formed in Marine Sciences & Technology Dept.
Oct 1993 The Institute, the Divisions and the Sections were renamed as follows, Chugoku National Industrial Research Institute, Marine Environmental Science and Technology Div., Production Fundamentals Div. and so on.
